The Region
The Monapo municiplaity of Mozambique has a population of 76,976, butduring school term Monapo is bursting at the seams with a huge influx of students. This is because Monapo is the only town in the Monapo District (area 3,598km² and population 226,968 inhabitants, or 64 people per km²) to have a secondary school from grade 8 to grade 11 with plans to go till grade 12 next year. With the rest of the world steadily moving forward in technological advancement, appropriate education in literacy, maths, sciences and computers is necessary if the nation is to have a fruitful future.
The Project
Paul and Sue Fosse have been World Outreach missionaries in Mozambique since 1989 and have a deep love and compassion for the people they reach out to. They are involved in many areas of the community and have a mission of bringing hope to the thousands of locals. One of these areas is the eduction. Sue, Paul and the Monapo Administrator Senhor Abibois have specifically recognised the importance of computer education. Their goal is to establish a school that educates its students in basic computer usage. With appropriate training and maintenance support, the centre should hopefully become self-supporting fairly quickly. However sponsorship will be necessary for offering special classes to those who are unable to pay and for the training of the computer teachers.
Although adults will pay adequately for training in computers and this will pay the teachers salaries, Sue and Paul hope to be able to offer the secondary school special times for access and training on the computers at very little or no cost at all.
The Need
The total cost of building and equipping the school and running the school for the first year is AU$15,193.05. With World Outreach sponsorship, this school can bring professional education to thousands of individuals, building a brighter future for the nation of Mozambique.
