The Nation
The Ivory Coast (Cote d' Ivoire) is a western nation of the African continent with a population of approximately 18 million. As with many African nations, education of the populace is at a relatively low level. Current literacy levels are at about 42%.
The Project
Janvier and Claudine Yokoinele began their partnership with World Outreach and YWAM in the city of Bouake of the Ivory Coast in 2002 and have since moved to the capital Abidjan. This compassion and love for the African people has led to the establishment of a literacy centre and school for both children and adults in a village about an hour along the coast from Abidjan. Janvier and Claudine are currently establishing a sister school in the capital and are planning to be taking in about 20 children across the year levels of one, two and three. These schools look beyond simple education and desire to instil values that will ensure these children become upstanding social members of the future nation.
The Need
For the school to be properly established according to approved curriculum, the cost for twenty students for the first year is AU$12,662. This covers all the books, equipment and classroom hire, and allows twenty young individuals the chance to be educated at levels previously unattainable.
